You Belong Here.
Data with Heart. Stories with Power.
Pride in Numbers is the largest-ever Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ research project in Oregon—independent, community-led, and rooted in real stories from real lives. It’s research by us, for us.

Too many decisions about our lives get made without us. Pride in Numbers is shifting power—story by story, voice by voice.
About The Project
Our belief is simple: our stories should drive the decisions that shape our lives. From healthcare to housing, education to safety, we’re gathering real experiences from Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people across the state—especially those pushed to the margins.
Our team is made up entirely of Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Oregonians, a majority of whom are BIPOC, trans & nonbinary, and from majority rural and non-urban communities.
This is about power, truth, and collective action—and making sure we’re the ones holding the mic.
Project Timeline

The Pledge & Your Privacy
The pledge is simple and takes about 2 minutes to complete. It lets us know, “I’m interested—keep me in the loop.”
When you sign, you show us that Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people across Oregon want to be counted. Later on, you’ll have several chances to participate in ways that feel right to you—including an online survey, community events, art projects, interviews, and more.
Your info will stay as safe as we can possibly make it. We don’t share or sell it. This project is independent—run by and for Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Oregonians, not the government, universities, or outside institutions. We only use your contact info to stay in touch about Pride in Numbers.
You’ll never be asked to share more than you’re comfortable with. Everything you tell us stays confidential and is only used with your explicit consent.

FAQs
-
Pride in Numbers is the largest-ever Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ research project in Oregon. It’s a community-led, independent effort to gather real stories from real lives—so we can build better services, smarter policies, and a future where all of us can thrive.
-
This is an independent community project run entirely by Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Oregonians—majority BIPOC, majority trans and nonbinary, and majority rural and non-urban communities. It’s fiscally sponsored by Pride Foundation and supported by partners like Basic Rights Oregon, Cascade AIDS Project, Seeding Justice, and more.
-
We’ll explore things like health care, housing, safety, education, economic well-being, family, identity, community contributions, and more. The goal is to paint an honest picture of what life is really like for Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people in Oregon—especially for folks who face added barriers because of their race, gender, income, disability, location, or other parts of who they are.
-
The project is funded by a mix of foundation grants and state dollars. All of our funders believe in the power of community-led research—and none of them have any control over our work or access to the personal information we collect.
-
If you take the pledge, we’ll only use your contact information to reach out about ways to participate. If you complete the survey and/or participate in another research activity, you’ll be told exactly what information is being collected and how it will be used. You will always be given the information you need to decide for yourself how you want to engage with the project and whether you’re comfortable sharing your information. We treat your information the way we want ours to be treated - with respect and care for your privacy and wellbeing.
-
We know that sharing personal information can be risky—especially right now, when Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people are being targeted in harmful and dangerous ways. And we know that past research efforts haven’t always protected our communities—in fact, they’ve often caused real harm.
That’s why we take privacy and safety extremely seriously. Our security protocols have been developed specifically for this project by Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ researchers and data security specialists with additional measures to counter the increasing challenges to research integrity in the U.S.
As a wholly independent, community-led project, we are not subject to any data sharing agreements with government, universities, or outside institutions. Your data will be securely stored, never sold, and only accessed by a handful of trusted researchers. You’ll never be asked to share more than you’re comfortable with, and nothing you share will be used without your clear, explicit consent.
-
Your safety is our top concern, but only you can decide what is safe for you. We'll do our best to give you the information you need to choose how to participate. We’ve worked hard to make this project affirming, but also we know it can feel vulnerable to share personal stories. You can participate anonymously and ask questions at any time.
-
Start by taking the pledge! After that, we’ll reach out with opportunities to connect with our survey, community interviews, art projects, and other events. You choose what works for you—there’s no one “right” way to be part of this.
-
Too often, research gets done on communities—not with communities. And sometimes the people who shared their stories never even hear back. Pride in Numbers is different.
Our first commitment is to our community. We’ll share what we learn directly with Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people across Oregon—through public reports, events, art, storytelling, and more. We’ll make sure our learnings are accessible, easy to understand, and designed to support advocacy, organizing, and change.
You trusted us with your story. We promise to share what we learn—and to make sure it reaches the people and places where it matters most.
-
We’re committed to being accountable and transparent. If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, contact the Pride in Numbers team directly at info@prideinnumbersoregon.org.
-
The goal is long-term, transformative change. It’s not enough for Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ people to simply get by or stop being targeted—we deserve to thrive in our home state.
This project helps ensure that Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ voices are at the center of decisions about funding, services, and policies in Oregon—especially for those who’ve been pushed to the margins. It’s about shifting power and building communities where our needs, lives, and leadership are no longer overlooked.
-
Yes. Our survey will be anonymous. Other research activities, like in person events, may have less anonymity. We do our best to offer you options that leave the power in your hands - from remaining anonymous to attaching your name to your creative submissions. You always get to decide how you participate and how much you share, and nothing is tied to your name without your clear permission.
